The Skippy Upholstery story: more than 40 years of craft, shaped by the furniture people choose to keep.
Explore the WorkshopIgor Skipalskiy brings more than four decades of experience to the Skippy Upholstery story. At our Brooklyn workshop, each project starts with the furniture itself: its condition, its character, and the way you want to use it. After all, a familiar chair or a well-made sofa can have plenty of life ahead of it.
Our work includes antique furniture and newer pieces, from a single chair to seating for a business. Sometimes the change starts with fabric. However, other projects call for cushion work, repairs, or a closer look at the frame. We discuss those needs together so the finished piece makes sense for everyday use.

Furniture often carries something worth keeping: a comfortable shape, a useful scale, or a place in a family’s home. Reupholstery offers a way to reconsider the cover and comfort while retaining the piece you value. The same care matters in commercial spaces, where seating helps define the room and serves people every day. Repairing useful furniture also keeps materials in service for longer. New York State’s guidance on reuse and repair explains this approach. For us, the starting point remains the piece you want to keep.
The portfolio shows that range. See our antique Rococo chair restoration alongside a custom gray velvet sectional. In each case, different shapes and materials call for different decisions. Our approach to craftsmanship keeps those details in view.
The next part of the Skippy Upholstery story could begin with your piece. To request an estimate, send photographs, approximate dimensions, and a short description of what you would like to change. You can also contact our Brooklyn workshop to discuss the starting point.
